The Lenormand Astro Mythological Tarot Card - The Geomantic Science of the cards - Part 5

The Geomantic Science and History of the Cards

Geomantic Science is as ancient as astrology itself. It was firstly designed to illustrate figures in the sand or in a cup of coffee. The name of this science was derived from the words -"geo" meaning earth and "minty" meaning prediction. This method was based only on the ability of a person to understand abstract figures.

The most famous work in this area belonged to Pierre D'Abano. He named his work 'Horoscope' and his method of understanding this science is recognised as the accepted one. On a sheet of paper you would plot many points that you wished to illustrate, and after you made these points, you would continue to draw lines between them until you have one or two of them together. Each of these points are joined together until we have a configuration of a figure.

The fate of D'Abano was very complex. He was jealous of one of his colleagues who wrote badly of him during his inquisition in Europe, and it was the catalyst to put all their works on fire that did not correspond to his religious ideas. Their books were put on fire and they was lucky to avoid being killed.

Every figure corresponds to a planet or a moon in the sky, and helps us to understand the meaning of the card. There are 16 figures in general and they can be divided as follows:

There are 7 positive, 6 negative and 3 neutral geomantical figures:

The Seven Positive Figures

The Lenormand Astro Mythological Tarot Card - The Astrological correspondence of the cards - Part 5

The Astrological Correspondence of the Lenormand Astro Mythological Cards

Constellation - Libra - Every card has within its illustrations an upper central image of a constellation. Madam Lenormand wanted a correspondence of these images through a card system, with the language of plants and constellations together within the structure of a tarot card. A constellation has a big influence on an overall interpretation of a card.

Libra - A card philosopher with scales can be understood to be under the influence of this astrological sign.

The Romans considered Libra as a symbol of judgement which was symbolised with the Goddess Astrey. The connection with the Cups of Scales is relevant because of Vavilon from Egyptian theology, where the souls of dead people were put on these scales. Judgement, death and the last sentence are the real meaning of this card. If observed with other good cards, it can mean that you will become glorious and popular.

Ptolemy - This person compares its influence with Saturn and Mars. In Greek mythology, this constellation was connected with the scales of Goddess Femida, or with it's scales in the hands of Demetra. Until the end of the epoch of elitism, it existed under the other name of this constellation named 'Scorpion's hands'.

Events
- This area of the constellation is connected with reforms and social judgement. With good surrounding cards, it can mean you obtaining glory, and with bad сards, bad health. It warns us to be careful with water and poisons, with an increased opportunity of getting allergies.

Psychology - A person is involved in the process of reformation and tries to object against personal profit and power. This part of the card gives order and accuracy.

Lenormand Astro Mythological Tarot Card - An Explanation of The Jack of Hearts Card - Part 3

This post is a continuation of the previous post about the definition of the bottom right and left images concerning the card below known as The Jack of Hearts.

The Central Bottom Image

At the bottom of every card you will see the image of a flower. Lets investigate the three main types of flowers. These illustrations can also help us to obtain advice.

The Three Types of Flower

Periwinkle - This flower obtained an unusual popularity thanks to an autobiographical book entitled ''Confession" from the famous writer Jan-Jake Russo. It was a book that was written in connection with this flower and documented the most pleasant moments of his life.

After his death the people of Switzerland decided to obtain a monument of this flower in his name, and made it for Russo. At the bottom of his monument, the Swiss people plant this flower in his memory.

Those that do not know this flower are considered to be ignorant in Switzerland.

The main features of this flower is its ability not to die. It will continue to be alive in a glass of water after cutting it until the water around it is empty. If planted into soil it will continue to grow. This is not only why the periwinkle is a symbol of eternal life, but also a symbol of envy. It got this symbolism because once the Goddess of Flowers, Flora admired it with Violet, she noticed the attractiveness of this flower and planted it amongst people who observed it with envy, jealousy and those that wanted revenge against it. The periwinkle flower became a symbol of jealousy and started to divert the attention of others. Flora complained that it had no smell, or a name and she had experienced a fascination for this flower and gave it the neccessary growth and firmness against the cold weather, but did not give a scent to the flower. This only occurred at the moment of its blossom, and the name it got was periwinkle - which meant 'the winner for its persistence'.

In the modern language of flowers, the periwinkle symbolises 'faithfulness between partners'.

Crowberry - In ancient times the Greeks devoted this flower to Geba, the daughter of Gera and Zeus. Geba was the Goddess of Youth.

Rhododendron - An evergreen plant which symbolises judgement and restored harmony.

Lenormand Astro Mythological Tarot Card - An Explanation of The Jack of Hearts Card - Part 2

This post is a continuation of the previous post about the definition of the central image concerning the card below known as The Jack of Hearts.

The Bottom Right Corner Image
We can see a man who is in front of a judge. This corner means that you made a wrong decision or you committed a criminal offence. Be ready to take responsibility for this karmic situation.

This corner also brings quarrels, difficulties, misunderstanding and contradictions.

The Four Key Aspects of the Jack of Hearts card

Money and Finance
- You are at risk of meeting with unjustified actions or criminal proceedings, and should seek advice from a lawyer. Your financial situation is not stable, and you may lose large amounts of the money. You will not find help or support in this situation too.

Feelings - You will encounter conflicts and quarrels.

Psychology - Your carelessness may bring you into dangerous situations. You may also encounter a deceptive character who appears to be nice in appearance, but hides their true motive with bad intentions towards you.

Future Events - You will experience cautiousness when you try to do what you are planning to do and will need to contemplate an outcome carefully. There will be problems with a partner and no possibility to control your agreements.

The Bottom Left Corner Image

We can see two men who are in front of a judge. This corner means that you are in a court of law. The intention between the two men will be to find justice in the form of compromise and compensation. This corner also brings an ease to communications, behaviour, respect and most importantly, obtaining justice.

The Three Key Aspects of the Jack of Hearts card

Money and Finance - A judgement comes and a compromise decision is found, but more often this corner illustrates a sign of contracts and papers towards making new agreements. A financial situation depends on the success of your partners. A wait for receiving any form of compensation is experienced too.

Feelings - There is good intentions between partners, with a possibility to find compromise.

Psychology - Your relations with other people are balanced and in harmony. A person is emotionally balanced and diplomatic, and will try to solve things through compromise.

Lenormand Astro Mythological Tarot Card - An Explanation of The Jack of Hearts Card - Part 1

Today I would like to present to everyone an explanation about the card which you see below, for anyone to see a bit more about how this card works, and how much information you can find within this card.

The name of above card is called the Jack of Hearts, and it belongs to a group named 'The Signs of the Zodiac'.

The Central Image

The central image of the above card is a figure of a philosopher who symbolises foresight and a balance in his decisions. Around him, everything is in chaos (observe his books, letters and documents on the floor). He neglects them all and is only concentrating on his scales. Nothing diverts his attention, or the events that occur in the outside world, or any mistakes he makes. Only truth and harmony have real meaning and value which are symbolised with the scales in his hand.

The Meaning of the Central Image of the Jack of Hearts card

The above card illustrates that you should be like this philosopher and assess the justification for those that support you or those that are against you objectively, and only after this objectivity, can you make a rational decision. Sometimes this card illustrates the agreements connected with an official institution. However, the main idea towards understanding this card is that it presents us with judgement, balance, harmony and order.

The Four Key Aspects of the Jack of Hearts card

Money and Finance - This card is very good for any perspective in relation to law and management. In all other cases it will illustrate the need for a serious approach towards a legal aspect of contractual agreements and official documents. You should follow the law while you are involved in this area of your life.

Financial Abundance - This depends on any decision you will make. You should not waste money on unnecessary things, but only on what is necessary.

Relationships - An honest and loyal behaviour gives stability in your relationships. You are at an important crossroads and you need to make an important decision. Sometimes this card symbolises an official marriage or divorce.

Psychology - This card represents a young but very creative and gifted man. He likes everything to be in order and tries to obtain justice for anything he does. His decisions are always very balanced and objective.

When the above card appears in an Astro Mythological tarot spread, it usually represents the inner fighting between a persons honesty and passion while making an important decision. It also can represent two contradicting choices. In general it illustrates a problem of choice.

I am presenting a brief description about the main image, but you can also see that there are other additional images on the above card which can also help us to know more about any given situation which I will explain later on in this Astro Mythological Tarot blog.

The life and times of Marie Lenormand

Marie Lenormand was born on 27 May 1772 in Alençon, Normandy, to Jean Louis Antoine Lenormand, a draper, and Marie Anne Lenormand (neé Gilbert). Madam Lenormand was orphaned at the age of five and educated in a convent school. She left Alençon for Paris in 1786.

She was a French professional fortune-teller, active for more than 40 years and of considerable fame during the Napoleonic era. Lenormand claimed to have given cartomantic advice to many famous persons, among them leaders of the French revolution (Marat, Robespierre and St-Just), Empress Josephine and Czar Alexander. In 1814 Lenormand started a second literary career and published many texts, causing many public controversies. Lenormand was imprisoned more than once, though never for very long. In France Lenormand is considered the greatest cartomancer of all time, highly influential on the wave of French cartomancy that began in the late 18th century.

She lived during a very turbulent time, and also predicted and consulted for Napoleon Bonaparte of France, as well as Maximilien de Robespierre, a famous revolutionist in France - who she informed in 1793 of his eventual death by beheading.
More often, Madam Lenormand worked for Napoleon and his wife, Josephine de Beauharnais. She predicted the crown for Napoleon, which was not thought possible, but occurred 10 years later for him in 1805.

She opened her own consultation room in 1790 and died in 1843, and left after her death some literature and tarot cards.

The Astro Mythological Tarot deck of cards was discovered at the beginning of the 19th century by Marie Anne Lenormand. It originated from the ordinary 54 card deck. Later on, some illustrations were added to these playing cards.

Madam Lenormand was also a very popular public figure. She remained unmarried throughout her life.

She was involved in mystical symbolism, and studied Greek-Roman, Egyptian Mythology, as well as Jewish Kabala religion.
