The Three Types of Flower
Periwinkle - This flower obtained an unusual popularity thanks to an autobiographical book entitled ''Confession" from the famous writer Jan-Jake Russo. It was a book that was written in connection with this flower and documented the most pleasant moments of his life.
After his death the people of Switzerland decided to obtain a monument of this flower in his name, and made it for Russo. At the bottom of his monument, the Swiss people plant this flower in his memory.
Those that do not know this flower are considered to be ignorant in Switzerland.
The main features of this flower is its ability not to die. It will continue to be alive in a glass of water after cutting it until the water around it is empty. If planted into soil it will continue to grow. This is not only why the periwinkle is a symbol of eternal life, but also a symbol of envy. It got this symbolism because once the Goddess of Flowers, Flora admired it with Violet, she noticed the attractiveness of this flower and planted it amongst people who observed it with envy, jealousy and those that wanted revenge against it. The periwinkle flower became a symbol of jealousy and started to divert the attention of others. Flora complained that it had no smell, or a name and she had experienced a fascination for this flower and gave it the neccessary growth and firmness against the cold weather, but did not give a scent to the flower. This only occurred at the moment of its blossom, and the name it got was periwinkle - which meant 'the winner for its persistence'.
In the modern language of flowers, the periwinkle symbolises 'faithfulness between partners'.
Crowberry - In ancient times the Greeks devoted this flower to Geba, the daughter of Gera and Zeus. Geba was the Goddess of Youth.
Rhododendron - An evergreen plant which symbolises judgement and restored harmony.
